The battle for the Stanley Cup is unlike any other postseason race, and we have a great first round matchup between New Jersey and New York in a classic River Rivalry series. Playoff hockey never disappoints; the 5th-seed New York Rangers are currently up two games on the 3rd-seed New Jersey Devils. After the Rangers beat the Devils 5-1 in the second game of their series, the two teams will head to Madison Square Garden this Saturday for Game 3. The Devils have not been playing the kind of hockey they need to if they are gonna turn this series around and beat the Rangers. They came out strong in Game 2 with a one goal lead to end the first period. That didn’t last long though, as the Rangers put up three goals in the second period and then two goals in the third.

The Rangers are a scary-looking playoff hockey team. Their late-season additions of Tarasenko and Kane have definitely contributed to their phenomenal playoff start. They have been peppering Vanecek and finding twine all series. Not to mention their netminder, Igor Shesterkin, has been dialed in with a save percentage of .959. While the Rangers have been absolutely lights out thus far, I could see them coming into this one flat and underestimating the sheer talent of the Devils. I wouldn’t be surprised if the boys from Newark take an early lead and run with it. They have been known for bouncing back from losses this season. After all, they recovered from a 0-2 start to the season to become the 3rd seed out of the East.
The Devil’s elite scorers have been quiet in their first two games, but I could see them really turning it on this Saturday. Jack Hughes only has one goal this series, and his boys Nico Hischier and Dougie Hamilton haven’t been much help either. The high-scoring lads are going to be coming into Game 3 with quite the chip on their shoulder. Igor is going to need to keep up his performance in the net because he is going to be under fire in this one. This is a must-win game for the Devils; they can’t afford to go down three games against the Rangers. I’m taking the Devils on the road in this one.
