Game Analysis:
This will be a good series, however, the winner is all but decided in my opinion. The Orioles have been having quite the season in arguably the best division in baseball the American League East. I would like to think that consistently playing and beating the likes of the Yankees, Marlins, Red Sox and company does give the edge to this Baltimore team. As good as the Phillies are, the Orioles are just a little bit better.
The Phillies are still a very solid baseball team don’t get it twisted. I love watching Kyle Schwarber play baseball because this guy is just the definition of swinging for the fences. If you’re an opposing pitcher and he makes contact with your pitch then you’re cursing as you see the ball enter the upper atmosphere. If he isn’t making that level of contact, however, then you’re laughing as Kyle almost dings the catcher in the facemask as his backswing blows his back out. This man has 26 home runs which is the team high by a mile. His batting average leaves much to be desired though sitting at a measly .188. I just don’t get how someone can be so good and so bad at batting. On the batting side of the ball, Alec Bohm seems to be living up to his name as he leads the Phillies in RBIs with 59. All in all their batting lineup is more rock solid than Nick Castellanos’ batting average when something devastating is being discussed. And I’m not here to discuss whatever shortcomings this team may have, I just think that the Baltimore Orioles are a slight bit better. Not just because they have more wins, but it’s against largely better competition.
The Baltimore Orioles have some sluggers of their own. Anthony Santander sits with 17 homers on the season so far and 54 RBIs. However, when he’s not hitting homers he’s at least getting on base. The man isn’t walking back to the dugout every time he fails to return his ball to sender. His batting average sits at a solid .271. In fact, no one that bats regularly for this Orioles team has below a .214 batting average on the season. Those tiny details are what often separates the cream from the crop in these types of heavyweight series. I would also like to shift over to the other side of the field when praising this team because it seems that balls do not drop in the Oriole’s outfield. Currently, the starting right and left fielders for Baltimore have a 100% fielding percentage.
These are two elite baseball teams, but only one can win. Bet on either team and get your own Friday Beers merch!
