Game Analysis:
Some good old-fashioned west-on-west crime in this series. Third in the area for the National League and fourth in the area for the American League. This series has all the makings of an electric, nail-biting, close series. As much as I would love to back the Arizona team seeing as this is the first year in a great many years they are any fun, I just can’t do that. I think they’ve been slipping far too fast and great a distance than I’m comfortable with in recent weeks. Even if they do remain better than the Mariners currently.
The Arizona Diamondbacks started out so well. And they stayed pretty darn good too as the season continued going on. I really thought that they were gonna make some noise this postseason, and that’s not to say they can’t anymore, but they have definitely slipped in recent months. Now, let’s not get it twisted, this team still has some amazing talent. Christian Walker and Corbin Carroll are elite hitters in Major League Baseball. Both of these guys have tallied themselves more than 20 home runs so far this season. Christian Walker has added 67 RBIs to this total, and Corbin Carroll has added 57 RBIs to those ding-dong totals. Oh and in terms of fielding they’ve got more than a few outfielders with a 100% fielding percentage so of course they can prevent runs when they need to. It’s just been that recent tough stretch of games that has me slightly worried for this team.
The Mariners are a team on the rise, and that is what might give them the edge in my own personal book. They haven’t been unbeatable of course with a record of 52 and 50, but in recent history, they have looked the slightly better team. I think it helps that their batting order, at least in recent games, has been the opposite of the Titanic. In the sense that there are zero holes in it. They have six different players who all have more than 10 home runs this season, and considering that a normal batting lineup has nine players I’d say that’s pretty darn good. The leader in moonshots for the Mariners is centerfielder Julio Rodriguez with 17 of them, followed closely behind by Teoscar Hernandez who can claim 16. When it comes to the other side of the game they’ve got a first basemen with only one error to his name this deep into the season which is a luxury not every MLB team can lay claim to.
This will be a fantastic series to watch. I like the Mariners, but bet on either team and get your own Friday Beers merch!
