Game Analysis:
Two teams that are, as of writing this, one win apart, and perfectly splitting the season series so far through two meetings? Oh yea, sign me up. Even though the Tigers are higher up their division leaderboard I think that speaks more to the lack of strength in the American League Central rather than any detriments this Pirates team might have. This far into the season with so many different types of records and team layouts, this might be the closest we get to a real even series. I could not tell you who’s gonna win, but I’m sure excited to watch.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are a solid MLB team there is no argument against that fact. They currently sit with a close to .500 record, and some players who any team would love to have on their roster. One such player is Jack Suwinski who has 21 ding dongs to add to a tally fo 52 RBIs and the highest WAR rating on the entire team. I don’t love the fact that switch-hitter Carlos Santana is now a Brewer and no longer on the Pirates. He was some serious offensive production with this team having 12 home runs and sitting 16th in total doubles this season across the entire MLB. He was a great pickup for a great team, and I’m not entirely sure who will fill that hitting production hole that’s now in the center of this team. Shifting back over to Jack though, he’s also not let a ball drop in his outfield this year, with a 100% fielding percentage and no errors to his name. I have to admit, while one player can’t win a game in baseball, Jack will try his absolute best to.
The Detroit Tigers have some solid batting all-around, as well as the benefit of not losing a key player halfway through the season. While they do not have a Jack Suwinski on their team they do have first baseman Spencer Torkelson who’s not too shabby of a slugger. He has 15 homers on the season along with 57 RBIs, leading his team in both categories. I will say, I have to imagine that Tigers fans must be happy to have their catcher Jake Rogers back who has already gotten 12 homers with only 66 at-bats this year. Three fewer home runs in 35 fewer games played? Not too shabby at all. When it comes to fielding I’m not incredibly impressed with anyone for the Tigers, but no one is really a liability either. Yes, they don’t have a zero-error outfielder, but they also don’t have anyone with a ton of errors either.
I’m a huge fan of this matchup as a baseball lover, and you all should be too. Bet on either team and get your own Friday Beers merch!
