Game Analysis:

This battle means two different things for these teams. One team is already in the playoffs, and pretty solidly. The Blue Jays coming off of a series against the Cleveland Guardians that they failed to sweep, but it’s hardly like they needed to. They are more than several games ahead of their competition in the race for the American League Wildcard spots so these upcoming series may not have that much weight for the Jays. The Cubs on the other hand need every single win they can get as they try to claw their way into this year’s MLB postseason. They’re tied with division rivals the Reds and I’m sure that only increases the desperation for wins. Expect the Cubs to come out with more passion in the series and get the win.

The Blue Jays have been good this season. Good enough to secure themselves a playoff Wildcard spot at the moment. That, while being positive, can also lead to complacency, which in sports is never your friend. I don’t think the Blue Jays all of a sudden decide to tank or anything, I just don’t know how much that fight they had that put them in this position will persist. Having said all that they do still have weapons that the Cubs have to watch out for. One such weapon is the bat that Vadi Junior uses. I don’t know which states he’s registered that in, but with the carelessness he shows in open-carrying it I have to imagine it’s all of them. This dude has continued to dominate baseball. This year he’s gone for 18 tanks, and 69 RBIs (nice). He’s also one of eight players on this roster who have 10+ home runs. That’s a pretty terrifying lineup to go up against.

The Cubs have much more skin in this series, such as trying to extend their baseball season to the playoffs. I believe that having that extra hint of desperation will only make this solid baseball team even better. Especially when their direct competition is league rival the Cincinnati Reds. While we’re on the topic of hitters, the Cubs have some of their own. Patrick Wisdom has been a monster for the Cubs with 19 ding-dongs and 38 RBIs on the season. But Dansby Swanson has honestly been the more impressive player for me. He may have two fewer home runs but he also has 55 RBIs, and a batting average of .259, which I think may get overlooked a little too often.

The Cubs are gonna want these series wins more. Bet on Chicago and get your own Friday Beers merch!
