Game Analysis:
Are the Astros better than the Tigers? Maybe. Is the Astros roster more talented than the Tigers roster? Probably. Did the Astros cheat to win a World Series? Definitely. And you know what I love about the race to the playoffs in the MLB? All of that goes right out the window. (Well except maybe the third thing since that happened in the playoffs). The Tigers are a team with a whole lot of drive to win a ton of games as the season winds down and the Astros are not. They have their position pretty locked up. And if I truly know anything about sports the team with the desire, usually finds a way. I’m taking the Tigers in this series.
The Houston Astros are one cheating scandal away from being considered a great baseball team. From top to bottom, they have a solid roster and that’s why they’re in pole position to make the playoffs either as the winners of the American League West or in a wildcard spot. Just to put their level of talent into perspective they have three guys right now who are all in the 20+ home run category. And every single one of those guys has a batting average of .256 or better. Those are some downright silly statistics. However, with greatness can too often come complacency, and I have a funny feeling the Astros have straight-up overlooked this matchup, which will be one of their biggest mistakes of the season.
The Detroit Tigers are a statistically worse team than the Houston Astros. They don’t have the kind of batting talent that the Stros’ have in any capacity. What they do have is desire, and with desire comes performances like Kobe Bryant’s 81-point night. And, while they do not have the talent that the Astros have, that doesn’t mean they don’t have any talented ball players period. Spencer Torkelson has been a menace at the plate. He currently has 23 home runs, 69 RBIs, and a .239 batting average. If this man has a reason to pop off, he absolutely will. I’d expect big things from him in this series.
This Tigers team needs these wins way more than the Houston Astros, I’d back Detroit and get your own Friday Beers merch!
