Hm. The college team currently ranked 5th in the nation going up against Youngstown State. I’m sure this will be an absolutely riveting match full of encapsulating performances from both teams. *Pauses for laughter*. Yea, if there is any game that I’m pretty confident in projecting the outcome of in college football game week two it’s this one. The Buckeyes are an infinitely better team than Youngstown State. Heck, I didn’t even know the college of Youngstown State existed until this assignment came over my desk. I don’t care that their win margin was higher than the Buckeyes’s they somehow played an even more irrelevant team than they are in their first matchup. I’m taking Ohio all the way on this one.
Youngstown State won their first game this year. Do I give them a high-five? Maybe give their fans a hug? I’m not sure what to do with this information other than tell you not to take too much stock in it. Let me get the name of the team they beat here. Just give me a second I know it’s around here somewhere…ah, yes, Valparaiso. It’s located in the state of who knows in the town of who cares. (I’m sure it’s a very lovely school for all those who go there). But, I must emphasize how irrelevant that win is. Even with this convincing win the aerial attack of the Penguins was not very convincing. Their quarterback, Mitch Davidson, only threw for 130 yards and one touchdown on the day. Their three other touchdowns came from their run game. Which yes, I guess technically means the Buckeyes should watch out for that, but I can promise you they know more than I do about this football team’s strengths and weaknesses. I’m expecting Ohio to force Youngstown to throw here.
Ohio State also had a convincing win in their first game of the season. Except they were playing against Indiana, another Big Ten team, making them a direct rival. This wasn’t against the school of agriculture, this was against a real sports team at a real sports-loving school. And Ohio State beat them by 20. I mean, there’s a reason why they’re ranked fifth after just one game. Quarterback Kyle McCord looked amazing throwing for 239 yards and a 60.6% completion rate. This passing prowess was completed by the red zone running game who punched through two TDs to cap an outstanding offensive performance for the Buckeyes. The defense was also stellar holding Indiana to just three total points throughout the game.
