Game Analysis:
The race for the postseason is heating up and we have the pleasure this week of witnessing what should be a great AL East matchup. The Baltimore Orioles seem like a lock to be playing playoff baseball but the Red Sox need to string some wins together and fast. In this do-or-die series will the Sox be able to inch closer to that coveted Wild Card spot? Here’s what you should know.
Man have the Orioles been such a treat to watch this year. They’re young, fun, and love playing baseball in the sun. This excellence has earned them the coveted 1st place in what I think is the toughest division in baseball and maybe all of sports. Their offense is solid but where they have really shined is on defense, only allowing 4.2 runs against a game which ties them for 6th in the MLB. They are dead even on runs scored per game with the Sox as they each touch home plate on average five times a game. Rutschman and Henderson are some of the best young players in the league, and just wait for them to call up Jackson Holliday. Mountcastle has also been an absolute beast, and they have some studs in their pitching staff like Kyle Bradish and the now-injured Felix Bautista. Will this be enough for them to march into Fenway Park and beat the desperate Red Sox?
If you ask me I would say probably not. This Red Sox team is so motivated and knows they need to win. They’re basically already playing playoff games at this point. Sure their defense might be the worst baseball defense literally of all time but the offense can make up for it. Justin Turner and Yoshida have been electric additions and Kenley Jansen closes games out so well. The young studs are playing well too, Casas is turning into a star before our very eyes and Dever remains one of the best offensive third basemen in the league. The pitching staff is serviceable with some standouts like the now healthy Chris Sale. I think the pressure on this team will form them into diamonds and they’ll defend their home turf and beat the Orioles.
This should be such a good series. Bet on the Red Sox and get your own Friday Beers merch!
