The football gods are back! The tears that spring to my eyes when I say that the Lions are good at football again are immeasurable. If only Megatron was around because this is the team that he deserved to play for. Well, he and Matt Stafford both, but at least Matt got his ring. Everywhere you look on this team you just see heart-warming story after heart-warming story. Trust me, in a few years, there is going to be a Disney Plus movie about this team. Or I guess a TV Show now because those are the craze.
The Carolina Panthers have been…bad. Well, I guess I can’t quite say bad because they’ve had life, unlike some other teams, but they definitely haven’t been great. First overall pick Bryce Young has looked good in short spurts so far this season, but has only thrown for a meager 503 yards. His touchdown to interception ratio is also 1:1. It’s tough to sell yourself as a franchise quarterback when you give as many chances to the other team as you do your own team to score points. But I can’t blame him too much, his receiving core is kind of the island of misfit toys, and his best running back was not good enough to even be a backup for Phillie’s championship roster.
The Lions on the other hand have looked phenomenal. I am so happy for Jared Goff man. He has looked like the high draft pick he was taken at on this Lions team. Does it help that he has Amon-Ra St. Brown to throw to? Maybe. I’m not saying it’s a blessing throwing to a guy who recites the list of every single receiver taken before him in a draft before he goes to bed like a serial killer, but I’m also not saying it’s not a blessing. It isn’t just the receivers that are motivated though. David Montgomery is looking to prove he’s an elite player in the NFL still, and this Lions defense is looking to make a name for itself. When they beat the Chiefs in the first game of the season they put the league on notice. They’ve got some lofty goals this season and if the Chiefs can’t stop them…who can?
This is an easy game to predict so don’t overthink it, bet on the Lions!
