Game Analysis:

When you see a matchup between two schools averaging under 100 passing yards per game on the season, you know it must be a game between two military service squads, and that’s what we have in store in week 8 as the Navy Midshipmen host the Air Force Falcons. Air Force enters this game ranked in the AP poll for the first time 2019, at #22, as they hold a perfect 6-0 record to begin their season. Their opponents, Navy, have not enjoyed the same success this season as they enter this matchup 3-3.

The Air Force Falcons have finished each of their last two seasons at 10-3, but failed to crack the AP poll, so they are certainly happy to finally get some recognition this year following a 6-0 start. Although they haven’t faced the stiffest competition, they’ve made fairly quick work of all their opponents so far, with their tightest game coming last week, when they hosted Wyoming and won 34-27. The Falcons trailed that game at halftime, but dominated the second half to pull out a victory. As per usual, Air Force threw the ball just 9 times, although 1 resulted in a touchdown. QB Zac Larrier also rushed the ball 20 times for 111 yards and a score, and RB Emmanuel Michel added 97 yards on 22 carries. RBs Owen Burk and John Lee Eldridge were each impressive as well as they both eclipsed 60 rushing yards on 4 or less carries, as well as both scoring a touchdown. This is the formula Air Force has had success with, and they will take on a similar style team this week.

The Navy Midshipmen have recovered from a 1-3 start with 2 wins in a row, including a 14-0 road win last week against Charlotte. They actually threw the ball a decent amount for their standards in that game, as QB Braxton Woodson went 5/14 for 85 yards and a score. Woodson also had 18 carries, but registered just 58 yards. FB managed 75 rushing yards on just 6 carries, and added a score. The defense was absolutely dominant, recording a shutout and taking the ball away 3 times. I expect this matchup to be a similarly low scoring tight affair, especially with bragging rights on the line between two service academies. Take Navy and the points in this one, as I don’t believe Air Force will be able to cover a double digit spread on the road.

Take Navy in this one!
