Game Analysis:
This is what playoff basketball is all about. Two upsets in the East already and we haven’t even made it to the second round yet. Both of these teams are scrappy, defensive teams, so you know this matchup will be a brawl. One of them has the best player in the playoffs and the other team has so many stars playing cohesive team basketball that it hurts. Who will win? Probably either the Knicks or the Heat; it’s too hard to tell which though.
The New York Knicks have made it to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in a decade! Let us praise the basketball gods for making one of the biggest markets in basketball relevant again! I doubted them I won’t lie to you, but they did it. The Nova boys have been huge for this team in different ways. Jalen Brunson has been the de facto star, leading the Knicks in both points and assists. And Josh Hart has been the Hart (see what I did there) and soul of this team since he got there. In the opening round of the playoffs, Josh Hart had the biggest 11.6 points per game of anyone all while shooting 56% from the field. The defensive paint presence of Mitchell Robinson has also been undeniable considering he has 2.2 blocks per game in the first round and reduced both Evan Mobley and the fro to shells of themselves.
The Heat single-handedly had the most impressive first round of these playoffs. They not only beat the top-seeded Bucks, but they did it in five games. I will be fully transparent as a fan of a different Eastern Conference team, I am absolutely terrified of this Miami Heat team. Jimmy Butler is him. There are no ands, ifs, or buts about it. He is a force of nature that cannot be stopped. In back-to-back playoff games, he combined with himself to score 98 points. He scored an entire team’s worth of points, by himself, in two games. That’s impossible to comprehend. Across all five games, the man was scoring 37+ points on almost 60% shooting. Who cares what anyone else in this lineup is doing? Just try and stop Himmy Butler in the playoffs. You can’t; the best team in basketball, the Bucks, tried. Oh, and I guess Duncan is playable again? He shot 73.7% from three in the first round even though he didn’t play at all this season. So I guess playoff Duncan is a thing too now?
