What a crazy NCAA Baseball season it has been, with upsets, controversies, and amazing highlight plays. As the season winds down the finals begin, LSU and Florida are in Omaha slated to play for the coveted National Championship. Here is what you need to know.
Wow is the SEC good at sports. Despite being in the same electric division, LSU and Florida have not met up to this point in the season, and man oh man are they meeting on the biggest stage. Both teams had a tough path to make it to this point, with Florida beating Virginia, Oral Roberts, and TCU. Nine batters are hitting above .250, which I don’t know if you can do quick math, but is enough players to field a team. 4 of those players are over .300, and the Gators are averaging 4.66 runs in Omaha. Their pitching has also been solid all season, with 7 pitchers boasting ERAs under 4.00. Their defense lets up around 3.6 runs a game, and really is riding a hot streak. I mean, they beat some good teams to get to this point, but their toughest test is yet to come.
When I first wrote about the College Baseball World Series, there were two teams I really liked to win it. Wake Forest, and Louisiana State University. Now it comes down to the Final, and my favorite pick was beaten by my second favorite. Now they’re playing Florida, and to be honest I like LSU in this one. They’re 51-16 overall, with 12 players hitting over .250, and 5 of those hitting over .300. This team rakes, and led by their star center fielder Dylan Crews who is batting a monstrous .423 on over 320 plate appearances. This offense is locked and loaded, ranking in the top percentile in scoring, on-base percentage, and dingers. Combined with a solid pitching staff with 7 of their pitchers under that 4.00 ERA mark. Odds makers currently have this series as a toss up, but I’m taking the Tigers here, Geux LSU!.
