A matchup of two ranked SEC teams is always bound to deliver a great game, and that’s exactly what we have in this one, as the 23rd ranked LSU Tigers travel to Columbia to take on the 21st ranked Missouri Tigers. While both teams are ranked, one of them is disappointed to be at the spot that they are, while the other is thrilled. LSU came into the season ranked 5th, but have dropped down the poll following a 3-2 start. Mizzou on the other hand, started the year unranked, but have rattled off 5 straight wins to open the year and jump into the AP poll. Let’s take a look at each of these teams, starting with the visitors.
LSU had national championship aspirations heading into the season in Head Coach Brian Kelly’s second year with the Tigers, but they now have to just focus on stacking up wins and trying to get to a New Year’s six bowl, as they sit at 3-2. They are coming off their first SEC loss, a heartbreaking 55-49 loss at Ole Miss where they blew a late lead. If there’s a silver lining however, it was the performance of QB Jayden Daniels who threw for 414 yards and 4 touchdowns to continue his fantastic season. The defense simply has let this team down in their two losses, otherwise we could be looking at a team still competing for a national title. They still have a chance to compete for the SEC title, and are hoping for a big road win to get them going moving forward.
The host team in this matchup, the Missouri Tigers, have had a fantastic season to this point, having yet to lose, but a win this week over LSU would take their season to another level. This will be only their second SEC game, the first of which came last week at Vanderbilt, and resulted in a 38-21 win. QB Brady Cook was excellent in that game racking up 395 yards and 4 touchdowns. His playmakers had big days as well, with WRs Luther Burden and Theo Wease each hauling in 10+ receptions and over 100 yards. In what figures to be a high scoring back and forth battle of the Tigers, I expect the ones from LSU to come out on top with a big road win.
