Well shoot. It’s ok to be wrong sometimes, right? The Nuggets may have lost the series lead after game 4, but they quickly regained it after the win in game 5. The Nuggets blasted the Suns in game 5. You gotta hand it to them, they played a hell of a game and didn’t rely on Jokic to be a freak of a human and score 50 points again. This time they played like an actual team. Both these teams are undefeated at home. I don’t know why I thought it was a good idea to bet against the home team. Well, this time I won’t be wrong. Bet the Suns when they go back to Phoenix on May 11th!
The Suns didn’t have a horrible game, but they didn’t have a good game either. We have seen them play better during this series, so we know they have it in them. Their team shooting percentage in game 5 went down the toilet compared to game 4. Their field goal percentage went from 56% in game 4, down to 43% in game 5. Their 3 point percentage dropped to 33% in game 5 where in game 4 it was 44%. Even their free throw percentage went down almost 13% and those are free damn buckets. If your team is missing easy buckets, that’s pretty demoralizing for the rest of the team. Even though KD was 0-3 for three’s, he still managed to scoop up a double-double. Devin Booker had some more shots behind the arch and was 4-7 which I like to see. However, he was 8-19 for field goals and had some questionable shots that he took in the second half. Even though the Suns lost, they had a lot of participation off the bench and they managed to help out with 26 points and 12 rebounds. The Suns just need to improve their shooting and they should be ready to go play in Phoenix on Thursday.
The Nuggy’s. Denver played some stellar basketball the other night in game 5. The Nuggets played and scored in unison in game 5 which is just what the doctor ordered. Through Jokic’s triple double, and 34 points off the bench, the damn Nuggets were firing on all cylinders. Even though their field goal percentage was a bit lower than game 4, their 3 point percentage and free throw percentage was higher than their numbers in game 4. Michael Porter Jr. had 5 three pointers and even Jokic was 2-3 behind the arc. Bruce Brown came off the bench and had 27 minutes of play time, and he did not let that time go to waste. He was 7-11 for field goals, 2-4 for three’s, and 9-10 for free throws, giving the man 25 points. The Nuggets have weapons all over the court and with a performance like that from Brown only strengthens their team and now they can rely on him off the bench or, dare I say it, give the man a start. The Nuggets were playing some sound basketball in game 5 over in Denver. Unfortunately, they’re not going to repeat this performance in game 6.
Thursday’s dance between Phoenix and Denver is going to be a match up to put down in the books. Future hall of farmers like KD and Jokic will square off against each other in a must win game for both sides. The Suns are going to force a game 7 after a crucial win this Thursday, so make sure to bet on the home team in the Phoenix Suns!
