Game Analysis:
Oh yeah, who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned redemption arc in college sports? Especially when both teams playing are looking to have some level of a bounce-back year after what happened the season previous. Northern Illinois and Boston College had a combined six wins last season out of a total of 18 played, and naturally neither made a bowl game. These two programs are too good for that to happen in a second season. Expect these two teams to be clawing for their first win of the season in this game to set an early tone as to how the rest of their year will play out.
Northern Illinois had an ok start to last year’s campaign with a win over rival Eastern Illinois, but that victory was incredibly short-lived as they went on to lose their next five games in a row before stopping the bleeding with a win against Eastern Michigan. But I don’t expect them to have the same misfortune they ran into last year. While yes they are in the MAC they are one of the better teams to play in that Conference, and they will look to showcase why this year. I expect games they lost against Toledo and Ball State to actually become wins. I expect that in the three or four one-score games they lost last season, something actually goes their way and instead they go even on them. A lot had to go wrong for Northern Illinois in the luck department last season to go three and nine, so hopefully that means they have a little luck left in the bank this season to tap into to potentially pull out the win.
Northern Illinois was not the only team that wanted to forget about how last season went. Boston College had the same exact record as them, but they are technically supposed to be slightly better as they play in the ACC. Hopefully with the loss of superstar talent Zay Flowers the program as a whole will decide to shape up, and try to sling some wins together as the regular season starts. Boston College always seems to have those couple of guys in their program that slide into the NFL and end up cooking. I’m sure the plan this upcoming season will be to utilize that talent to turn some of last year’s failures into successes starting with this very winnable game against Northern Illinois.
Both of these teams are looking to forget last year’s season. Bet on either team and get your own Friday Beers merch!
