Game Analysis:
This week 2 matchup in Denver features a pair of teams who have very strong defenses, but still have questions to answer on the offensive side of the ball. The Commanders come into this game off a 20-16 win vs. the Cardinals to open their season, while the Broncos blew a 4th quarter lead at home to their divisional rivals, Las Vegas Raiders, and lost by a score of 17-16. While both teams do currently have question marks on offense, they are in completely different spots right now, franchise wise. While the Commanders have a young first year starting QB in Sam Howell, who they drafted in the 5th round two years ago, the Broncos traded significant capital to acquire super bowl winning QB Russell Wilson prior to last season, to essentially go all in. However, he has had his struggles so far, and this week 2 matchup will perhaps be the most important of his Broncos tenure so far.
Let’s take a peep at the visiting Washington Commanders, who opened their season with a victory at home in week 1. As mentioned earlier, they employ first year starting QB Sam Howell, who was a highly ranked recruit going back to his days in North Carolina, but slipped to the 5th round in the draft. However, Washington feels strongly about his upside, and have tabbed him as their franchise QB. The defense of the Commanders has been their strength for years, and it’s not different this year. Washington has been known to have a lethal front four, featuring the likes of Chase Young and Daron Payne, and they are hoping Young can return to form this season following an injury plagued season last year. The offense has a sneakily good set of weapons for their young QB, featuring WRs Terry Mclaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel, but they will be tasked with facing a very tough defense this week in the altitude.
This might be only the second game of the Sean Payton era, but it already feels like a must win for the Denver Broncos, who already dropped a divisional home game to start the season. This defense, led by arguably the best cornerback in the league, Pat Surtain, is elite and will keep the team in games all season, just like they did last year. However, the fate of this team relies on Russell Wilson and the offense, as they are coming off one of the worst offensive seasons in recent history. While they didn’t get off to the best start in week 1, I believe that they will be the hungrier team in this week 2 matchup, and will win a low scoring game at home vs. Washington.
Bet on either team and enjoy that $200 offer from BetMGM.
