Game Analysis:
What happens when one of the best teams in the American League goes up against the Cubs? Probably nothing good for the Cubs. While Chicago certainly hasn’t been the worst team in the National League they haven’t exactly been the cream of the crop. Meanwhile, the Orioles are sitting second in one of, if not the best, division in baseball. I’m not saying the Cubs can’t win, but I also gotta be realistic here. The Orioles are the better team.
The Cubs are not the worst team in baseball. Their second baseman Nico Hoerner has been mister consistent so far this season. He’s had the best batting average on the team and also leads the Cubs in RBIs with 29. Which is probably a positive seeing as though the aim of the game is to score runs. Third Baseman Patrick Wisodm hasn’t been slacking in the hitting department either. He is currently top 16 in the game for Home runs with 14 ding-dongs, and only one RBI short of Hoerner. However, it isn’t the best look for Patrick when he’s already got seven errors on the season with a negative defensive WAR rating. Although I guess if Curry has taught athletes anything it’s that as long as you’re explosive enough offensively who cares how good your defense is? Not that Curry was on Superteams or anything.
The Orioles are just a little bit better than the Cubs, and by a little bit, I mean a lot. First of all, they currently have a winning record. Not that the past determines the future but there is truth in patterns and the pattern I’m seeing from the Orioles’ recent stretch of games is win-win-win-win-win-etc. The Orioles also have two players who have broken the double-digit home run mark this season. Their first basemen Ryan Mountcastle with 11 and their third basemen Gunnar Henderson with 10. Speaking of runs, the Orioles have four guys who all have more RBIs than the Cub’s RBI leader. Ryan Mountcastle and Cedric Mullins both have 39, Anthony Santander has 37, and Adam Frazier has 31. If my math serves me right, and I will admit I haven’t taken a true math course since High School, that equals out to…a lot of runs for the Orioles. That’s probably one of the main reasons they’re second in the entire AL. Oh, and their leader in batting average happens to have a fielding percentage of 100 because why not have players that can literally do it all?
I won’t go so far as to say that the Cubs can’t win this one, but the Orioles definitely have the upper hand. You might like my picks or you might have your own, either way, gamble responsibly and get your own Friday Beers merch!
