Game Analysis:

Who’s gonna be mad at a good ole’ fashioned National League Central grudge match? The third and fourth-ranked teams in this division get to go head-to-head to either create separation between them or close the gap even further. Who will win though? Well, I think this might be a toss-up but I’ll give the edge to the marginally better team in the Pirates. They may be on a losing streak and just got swept by this Cubs team, but this rematch is the perfect opportunity to get some wins.

The Chicago Cubs have been, as the kids say, super mid this season. They are five games below a .500 record, and it’s exactly where they should be. In terms of pimp shots, which let’s be real, is the first thing we all look for on the batting side of baseball, the Cubs are top-heavy. Patrick Wisdom and Christopher Morel are at 14 and 13 ding dongs respectively, which is solid, but nothing to write home about. Is that still a saying? Do people still write? And yes, before I continue on I do have to acknowledge that the Cubs did just complete a sweep against the Pirates. But let’s be real with each other, do we honestly think this Cubs team sweeps any baseball team twice? Not when their best batting average is .284, and joint 34th best in the league. I don’t like being a hater because it is the Cubs, but we gotta be fair here this team isn’t like that.

The Pittsburgh Pirates aren’t like that either, but I’m not willing to bet on the Pirates being consistently this bad. When it comes to offense on this team the combined power of 15 home runs thanks to slugger Jack Suwinski, and 40 RBIs thanks to the services of Bryan Reynolds has me confident enough for the Pirates to secure the dub. As long as their outfield keeps hitting this well, they will get back on track starting with this Cubs series. Speaking of Suwinski he also happens to have himself a 100% fielding percentage. Always nice to have a guy who can send it yard, and then also snag the other team’s hopes of doing the same out of the air. Not to mention the fact that the Pirates have two infielders with 100-plus recorded assists leading into this series.

This Pirates team is too good to stay on their current losing streak. The Cubs are good but they’re not that good. Bet on the Pirates (responsibly), and get your own Friday Beers merch!
