Game Analysis:
What a time to be alive baby. This is a real-life article I’m about to write. The Arizona Diamondbacks, in my humble opinion, are going to do a fantastic number on the Pittsburgh Pirates during this series. I did not think I would exist in a timeline where the Arizona Diamondbacks would be solid favorites in series’, and winning games on the regular in the MLB but here we are I guess. So let’s have some fun before the world ends and see how this series shakes out.
The Pirates have been…good? Yea, I’d be willing to say good, if I’m being more honest I’d say ok, but either way they’ve been alright. They currently are 40 and 45 putting them third overall in the National League’s Central Division. When it comes to their hitting, they’re more top-heavy than the Pheonix Suns, with Center Fielder Jack Suwinski accumulating 18 ding dongs so far this season, but only one other player breaking the double-digit mark in that category. Their best batting average (from anyone who actually plays in games consistently) is a .273 which is solid but when it doesn’t seem to translate into runs and scores it’s like owning a Ferrari and never showing it off. When it comes to the defensive side of the ball Jack Suwinksi is once again killin the game with a 100% fielding percentage that becomes even more mindblowing when you notice that he has also fielded the most games. But, as we can see from their record, you can’t carry a team by yourself in the MLB.
The Diamondbacks, miraculously, are the much better team in this series. They currently have five guys who seem to have earned the term ‘slugger’, as they’ve all broken the double-digits in the homerun category. Corbin Carrol and Christian Walker are the two leaders in the baseball delivery service stat with 18 and 17 respectively which must be brutal to see in the same lineup if you’re pitching against them. Christian Walker also leads the team in RBIs with 56, which, if my math is correct, is more than anyone in the Pirate’s batting lineup. There is a reason that the DBacks are top of the National League’s West Division with a 50 and 36 record. On the flip side of the ball, they have second baseman Ketel Marte who has a DWAR of 1.0, one of the higher one’s on the team given the amount of games he’s played. Factoring into that DWAR is most likely his 108 putouts and his 179 assists.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are going to stomp out the Pittsburgh Pirates this series. Bet on Arizona and get your own Friday Beers merch!
