Game Analysis:
Gimme this National League blockbuster all day every day. We’ve got the speed, the catching, the home runs, the pitching prowess, and even the diving catches. I love this matchup, and all of you should too. These are two teams that up until recently have been on very different trajectories come head-to-head in this sure-to-be electric series. The Diamondbacks have been in a slight freefall, while the Reds are surging late. But as I said, in these last couple of series that has not quite been the narrative. This really is a game in which either team can win, and I’m sure the stars will come out to play.
The Cincinnati Reds have very recently been in the depths of a horrible run of form. I mean I mean like Eminem’s post-Recovery album run of poor form. They have not won a game, at the time of writing this, in over a week, which is an incredible juxtaposition to the run they had been on before this slump. Regardless of their form, however, their breakout younger third baseman continues to shine. And for those of you that somehow don’t know what I’m talking about I of course mean Elly De La Cruz. He is a man who can’t get himself off of the highlight reels. In the 34 games that he’s hit in he has a .291 batting average, 16 RBIs, and 4 home runs. These of course are solid stats, but then when you slide your eyes farther down the stat sheet is where the real magic of this man happens. His 17 bases stolen have all been highlight reels that I’m sure have their own YouTube montages attached. In terms of a full team though this team’s batting has more to be desired, with only three players in the double digits for home runs.
The Diamondbacks do not have the same batting hangups that the Reds have had so far this season. They have five different hitters who have all broken that double-digit home run tally. I don’t really have the time, and I’m sure you don’t have the patience for me to list all of them but there are two I’d like you to keep paying attention to. Corbin Carroll and Christian Walker would be those two names, both with an 18-home run tally. Corbin Carroll has added 48 RBIs to his total, while Christain Walker has 58 RBIs. It’s like the Diamondbacks have two Aces up their sleeve and they get to use them whenever they want. I’m not saying that hitting is the end-all when it comes to baseball, but it definitely doesn’t hurt the Diamondbacks to have these two guys on the roster.
This will be a well-fought series that I believe the Diamondbacks will come out of on top. Bet on either team and get your own Friday Beers merch!
