Game Analysis:
You know what? I’m feelin’ dangerous today. This upcoming Blue Jays against the Guardians series is going to be an absolute banger that I’m riding with Cleveland on. They’re still second in the AL Central Division and of the two teams, they have a whole lot more to fight for at this point in the season, eyeing Minnesota in that divisional top-seed spot.
The Blue Jays are a good baseball team. There, I said it. I know this is the point at which you call me crazy for going against them, but I promise I’m not totally insane. They have some great hitting in the batting order with names like Vladi Guerrero, Bo Bichette, and Matt Chapman to name a few. Honestly, they may have the deepest batting lineup in the league this year with eight different guys in the 10+ home runs club, and all on great hitting splits. Their fielding has been much less impressive than their hitting with only one outfielder on the team having a perfect fielding percentage at this point in the season. They’re obviously still solid as their record and most recent series against the Sox reflects, but they’re not invincible. Additionally, they sit 7.5 games back in their own division which is a significantly greater margin than the Guardians face, and they’re pretty solidly in the AL wildcard race. They have a secure position so they don’t really have anything to fight for at this point in the season.
The Guardians on the other hand are going to start their grind to the top of the division in this series. They sit only four and a half games behind the Twins right now, and their best ticket into this stacked American League postseason is to take that divisional crown. There are no more games that this team can take lightly, and I expect them to play that way. They have plenty of hitting talent in Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor. Between the two of them, they have 33 home runs, 144 RBIs, and quite a solid batting average. So this team does have the ability to put up runs on unsuspecting opponents. They also have a slightly better fielding core than the Jays, with an outfielder of their own at a 100% fielding percentage, and only 2 total errors across the entirety of said outfield.
This Guardians team is gunning for the top seed so expect a fight in this series. Bet on Cleveland and get your own Friday Beers merch!
