Game Analysis:

Sure All-Star Weekend was a fun little break, but man am I glad we have more meaningful baseball games to watch and (responsibly) bet on. This week we have what should be some good baseball in a series between the Guardians and Pirates in a cross conference matchup of the Central teams. Here’s what you should know.

On paper I would say the Pirates have a better offense. They average more runs a game and have better overall slugging and OPS percentages. Homefield advantage is a real think in baseball in my opinion, and the Pirates while still under .500 at home do play better in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately O’Neil Cruz has been injured for a bit so we have not been able to see his almost inhuman athleticism, and I think the Pirates are missing him. 2-8 in their last 10, what started as a promising season has turned a little sour, but first place is still within reach as the Brewers are only 10 wins ahead of the Pirates. Cutch has been solid hitting .268 with 10 homeruns and 28 RBIs and is in my opinion the offensive MVP so far this season for the Pirates. The pitching has struggled but Keller and Velasquez have been solid starters while Moreta is a great reliever. All in all this team is scrappy and can’t be counted out at the start of any given series.

Now I think the Guardians are overall a more balanced and well rounded team, and I like them to win this series. Sure they average .2 less runs a game, but their pitching and defense have them tied for sixth in the MLB for runs allowed at 4.2 while the Pirates allow 4.7. Despite averaging less runs the Guardians have a higher team batting average. The Guardians have a top ten pitching staff in terms of ERA, and have a .987 fielding percentage compared to the Pirates who are almost in last with a .982 fielding percentage. The top of their batting order is pretty stacked, anchored by Josh Naylor Jose Ramirez. Shane Bieber’s still got it, and the rest of the pitching rotation has been great. Despite being on the road, I think this Cleveland team should be able to take the series in Pittsburgh.

Don’t miss a great series, and if you’re going to bet on it, please do it responsibly.

Bet on either side and get your own Friday Beers merch!
