Ladies and Gentlemen it is time for the coolest All Star Game event in any sport in the world; the MLB All Star Game Home Run Derby. This year we have an interesting cast with some good odds, and I am honored to be able to give you dear reader my thoughts and picks on this electric event. I’ll start off with what everyone wants to hear, my overall winner pick. Now before you get disappointed I will warn you it’s not a particularly incredible pick with crazy value and odds, but I still think it’s the right call. This guy has already won the derby twice, and if he takes it this year like I think he will then he would become only the second ever three time winner entering the company of Ken Griffey Jr. He also has already hit 25 home runs so far this year, which is good for third in the MLB. If you haven’t figured it out yet I’m liking Pete Alonso to win at +300 odds.
Now I’ll give you a matchup I like. Adolis Garcia to beat Randy Arozarena in the first round at -140. Adolis already has 21 homeruns this season compared to Randy’s 16. Those 21 long balls are already more than Randy’s career high which is just 20 home runs. We’re getting this value at just -140?? It’s definitely not a lock because anything can happen in these events but I like it.
Now let’s get a little crazy with it (responsibly of course). The total number of homeruns is currently set at 276.5 and the over is -115. Even if your player of choice loses who doesn’t like to root for more homeruns?? Honestly I don’t even know the stats behind this but I want to root for homeruns so give me the over even though it probably won’t hit.
