Game Analysis:
An American League versus National League East grudge match? Sign me up. What makes me even more excited about this heavyweight fight is the fact that they’re both second in their respective divisions. Although the Orioles do have more wins and the edge in this series. They’ve got a much more well-rounded team, and dare I say harder competition that they consistently play against in the AL East.
The Miami Marlins are a solid baseball team. I’m not gonna come out here and lie to you, folks. However, they do have a few concerning trends about their team that makes me less impressed. But I like to eat dessert before dinner, so let’s discuss the good parts of their team before I get too critical. The best part of the Marlins might have to be their designated hitter Jorge Soler. He has seemingly turned back the clock to his days with the Kansas City Royals since this is already his second-highest single-season homerun title and has a very solid chance of catching his highest. He has 23 moonshots heading into this series with 51 RBIs on top. If I’m the Orioles he’s the guy I’m wary of right now. However, that leads me to the not-so-good portion of this team. Besides Jorge, the Marlins hitting hasn’t impressed me too much. While most players on the team have solid batting averages only two other players have entered the double-digits for homers, and while you don’t need ding dongs to score runs it definitely helps you out.
The Orioles on the other hand seem to have one of the more well-rounded batting lineups in the league. They currently have five guys in the double-digits for home run hits with Anthony Santander leading in the category. And the team’s total home runs hit on the year, which is 107, is 20 more than the Marlins count which is 87 up to this point. I am very aware that home runs don’t make or break a team’s chance of winning a game or series, but with two teams that are this good, we have to split hairs. And the hairs are definitely splitting in favor of the Orioles. To shout out someone in particular for the Orioles I’d like to give praise to Austin Hays who currently holds the seventh-best batting average in the League at .314. That may cause some of you to roll your eyes and ask me how many games he’s played to earn that average. And my answer to you is 70 freaking 8. That is pretty ridiculous.
The Orioles are the better team in the East Coast matchup. Bet on the Orioles and get your own Friday Beers merch!
