Game Analysis:
Dog Days of summer means more betting on baseball, and I don’t know about you dear reader, but I am totally ok with that. This week we have a sweet where the Padres of San Diego travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates. Here’s what you should know.
These Pirates are not the Pirates I have grown accustomed to watching these past years. While they are below .500 and 4th place in the NL Central, they’re only a game and a half worse than the Padres who are also fourth in their division. The score more than four runs a game, but do allow .7 more runs a game than the Pirates which is fairly significant. They have more hits and a better batting average than the Padres, but strand a lot of ducks on the pond, struggling to capitalize on their hits which leads to lower run totals. The Pirates are definitely weaker in the pitching department, but an interesting stat is they have given up only 76 homeruns so far this season which ties them for second in the league. A good stat to know as they face a team that thrives on the long ball. This is a plucky Pittsburgh Pirates platoon, and while they will probably be underdogs in this series, they have home field advantage and can win any game they’re in.
Now the Padres are off to yet another disappointing start to the season. Sure they’re still in it, but this team is loaded from top to bottom and yet they are 4 games under .500. Despite that, there is still hope to turn this season into a success, as the stars are still performing, Soto is turning it around, and Tatis is just as good as he was before his suspension with 15 home runs already in his abbreviated season. The Padres score more runs than the Pirates, but also allow less; the 2nd fewest in the league to be exact. Not only that but they have one of the best bullpens in the league. They have a combined 3.70 ERA which is fifth in the league, and they also have the fifth best WHIP at 1.21. Not just that but their defense is clamps with a 99% fielding accuracy which is good for the (tied) top spot in the league. I think they will get the job done and win this series.
The San Diego Padres are a much more explosive offensive team than the Pirates. I think that explosiveness will win them the day, but bet on either team and get your own Friday Beers merch!
