Game Analysis:
Well the dog days of summer are upon us, and while there is only one sport to bet on during this time, there is still the opportunity to have some fun, responsibly try to make some money, and thanks to our friends at BetMGM, get a Friday Beers shirt on them! Here is what you need to know about this sweet offer, and the series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves.
Wow is the NL East stacked at the top. The Braves, Marlins, and Phillies have all been playing solid baseball, and there is a reason that Atlanta is currently at the top. They have a lineup that is more balanced than Livvy Dunne on the pommel horse, with an offense that scores the 2nd most runs a game in the league paired with a defense that lets up the 6th fewest runs in the MLB. Both teams should have the studs ready to go in the pitching department, but I think offense is what will decide these games. The Braves get on average 9.2 hits a game, which is wild. Acuna is batting well above .300 at .325, Arcia is hitting at a .341 clip, and barely anyone is hitting below .240. This lineup is red hot, 8-2 in their last 10, and have won six straight. The pitching rotation has also been wild, with Bryce Elder at a 2.6 ERA, Morton with a 3.71, and the always electric Spencer Strider. These fellas and the others in the bullpen combine for a 3.77 ERA which is good enough for 6th in the league.
Now if you’re just going off record you think the Braves should absolutely be able to take this series, and they might, but man is it fun to root for the underdog especially when they’re also 8-2 in their last 10 and on a 6 game winning streak. After a slow start the defending almost champions (2nd place) have roared back to above .500. These Phillies have been getting on base, averaging 8.9 hits a game and their batters are hitting .258, but the runs just aren’t being scored as Philly players on average are only touching home plate 4.4 times a game. The game is also at Citizens Bank Park, and those rowdy Philly fans should give their boys an extra edge, there’s a reason we talk about home field advantage. While their pitching and overall defense has struggled a bit, I think the bats will stay hot and result in the Phillies taking this series.
I won’t go so far as to say that the Braves can’t win this one, but I kind of like the Phillies to take it. You might like my picks or you might have your own, either way, gamble responsibly and get your own Friday Beers merch!
