Game Analysis:
I’m very sure this is entirely unhelpful as a writer and part-time predictor of games, but I could not tell you which of these teams is gonna win this one. Between the two teams one is coming from across the pond so if you’re twisting my arm for an answer I would have to go with the Phillies. A slightly better and much more well-rested team doesn’t seem like the wrong choice to me.
The Chicago Cubs are coming back from going .500 in one of the two countries our beautiful home can say we’ve never lost to. This means to me that they’re gonna be less rested, less motivated, and incredibly ready to go back to their homes. They’re currently a below-even team that can’t catch a break. They’ve got two guys with 13 or more home runs this season in Christopher Morel and Patrick Wisdom, but neither one of them has a truly sensational batting average. In fact, the best batting average of the entire team is a .285 and that’s from a guy who has only played in 36 total games this year. I wouldn’t call that formula a winning one. Nico Hoerner has been a relatively bright spot though in a relatively lackluster team. He has the second-highest batting average on the team in addition to having the most RBIs with .282 and 39 respectively. When it comes to fielding, left fielder Ian Happ has a 100% fielding average, which gets infinitely more impressive when you see that he’s played in 71 of the team’s games.
The Phillies have a slightly better record than the Cubs, but I’ll emphasize the slightly. They currently sit at 40 and 37 which puts them only a few spots above the Cubs on the table. However, they have a man who we should all believe in, a man named Kyle Schwarber. He liked to do this cool thing with his baseball bat where he takes baseballs with it and sends them into orbit. He’s done it 20 times this season so far which puts him at fifth most in the league. But I mean, I guess who’s counting? Does it hurt that he’s the only player in Philly that has over 10 home runs? Maybe. But what doesn’t hurt is that they have three players with more than 40 RBIs. Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber, and the one and only Nick Castellanos have passed the milestone this season, and I can only imagine that that number will grow.
The Philadelphia Phillies are a much more explosive offensive team than the Cubs. I think that explosiveness will win them the day, but bet on either team and get your own Friday Beers merch!
