Game Analysis:

The Phillies are going to want this series win much more than the Twins are. We are at the point in the baseball season in which a team’s drive becomes a factor in their play. Both of these teams are pretty darn good and have a very similar win total up to this point in the season. The Twins however are top of their division and 4.5 games above their closest competitor while the Phillies are still battling for that title. The fact that the Braves have pretty much locked up the NL East only drives home the desire that Philly will have to stay afloat in one of those wildcard spots. I’d take the Phillies in this series.

The Twins are, statistically speaking, one of the better baseball teams in the league. They sit atop the AL Central Division with 60 wins as of writing this article, and they have one of the scariest batting orders I’ve seen in Major League Baseball. Looking down at the list of hitters they have, six of them have 10 or more home runs this season and all but one of them has a batting average of .207 or better. And the one guy who doesn’t is Joey Gallo, who you can forgive because, well, he’s Joey Gallo. Their outfield is where they potentially lack though, having more holes than Swiss cheese. And ultimately, with a record that is worse than the Phillies, it’s only because of the apparent weakness in the AL Central that has the Twins so solidly in the playoff picture at the moment.

The Phillies are a better baseball team than the Twins. They have a better record, better hitters, and better fielding. Kyle Schwarber has continued to be one of the greatest enigmas in the MLB. This man has 30 home runs, 72 RBIs, and…..a batting average of .183. It’s just amazing how this man can be so good and yet so inconsistent of a hitter. It’s like if there was a pitcher who threw a perfect game some nights, and then every other night would let up like 10 to 15 runs. Besides Kyle, they have five other guys who have 10+ home runs just the same as the Twins. And if you’re asking me, even if their amount of sluggers wasn’t even, I’d much rather have the guy on my team who can single-handedly demoralize the opposition’s pitcher. Nick Castellanos has also been solid with both sides of his game, having a 100% fielding percentage as well as being one of said hitters with 10+ homers.

The Phillies are a better team with more motivation than the Twins. Bet on Philadelphia and get your own Friday Beers merch!
