Ahh the Nationals. They had a run where they were fielding some damn good baseball teams but that time has passed. Now they’re rebuilding and despite that have 51 wins which while bad is not completely awful. While the defense is bad the offense is alright. There are few statistical categories the Nats can compare to the Red Sox in, but they do make less fielding errors. Boston has the most errors in the entire MLB. Lane Thomas has been great, as has Joey Meneses and the now injured Victor Robles. Pitching has been a bit of a struggle but Josiah Gray is still holding it down with a 3.7 ERA. Will this team be able to compete with an in the hunt Sox squad?
If you ask me I would say no. The Red Sox are still playing very meaningful baseball looking to force their way into the Wild Card. They score more runs than the Nats and allow less so both offensively and defensively they should have the advantage in this series. I mean, they score .6 more runs a game while allowing .5 less. Those are some pretty big gaps. Devers has been solid this season, as has Turner and Verdugo, but the real breakout stars have been Yoshida, Casas, and Duran each of which have been so so good for this Sox team. Combine that young talent with the stars and the grizzled veterans and I think this Sox team should definitely be able to win this series. That being said, please always gamble responsibly and never wager more than you can afford to lose.
