Game Analysis:
Divisional rivalry games are the best. Unfortunately, this may be one of the less interesting ones. Only one of these two teams has a winning record, and only one of these two teams has a real chance of making the postseason in either a wildcard spot or a divisional title spot. As much as I love the Cardinals with family living in Saint Louis, I’m going to have to be honest here. Only one team will win this series, and it’s going to be the one with so much more to fight for. I’m taking the Reds and my recommendation would be for you to do the same.
The Saint Louis Cardinals have been okay this season. At the time of writing this article, their record is 67 and 78, which unfortunately sees them at the bottom of the NL Central. Contrary to their so-so record and abysmal position in the division’s standings, they’ve had some solid success at the plate this season. Nolan Gorman has had himself a season putting up 27 home runs, 76 RBIs, and a .233 batting average. And he’s not the only player on this team who has had more than 20 home runs. Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt have also reached that benchmark of hitting for the team. And when three players all have over 20 bombs, you do have to consider the talent you might be going head-to-head with if you’re the Cincinnati Reds.
The Cincinnati Reds are third in the division and only 5.5 games behind the leader for a reason. They have been much more solid than the Saint Louis Cardinals this year in every facet of the game. My favorite thing about the Reds is how much of a team they are. Yeah, they have a star in Spencer Steer who has hit 20 homers, 77 RBIs and has done it with a .267 batting average, but besides him, this team doesn’t have many household names. In fact, it’s currently bold to say that Spencer is a household name. The strength of the Reds is the amount of guys who they currently have performing at the level they need them to. They currently have nine different guys with double-digit home runs. Nine. That is an entire batting order of players with over 10 moonshots. Yea, it’s not Aaron Judge or Shohei stepping up to the plate, but when everyone you’re facing as a pitcher could potentially take it yard it makes you think too much. And if you’re a pitcher that’s overthinking, you’re a pitcher that’s getting beaten
The Cincinnati Reds are a better team than the Saint Louis Cardinals. Bet on Cincinnati and get your own Friday Beers merch!
