Game Analysis:

This matchup is not at all what it seems. I know most of you will look at the teams, and look at the money line or spread and automatically assume that there is an obvious winner. But this MLB season is broken into two halves for a reason and momentum means just as much as it does in baseball as any other sport. I won’t spoil too much right now, but trust me, the outcome of this game is not already signed, sealed, and delivered. I’m gonna roll with the Tigers and here’s why.

First, let’s talk about the Marlins. Yes, they’re a good baseball team this season, and yes they’re in a great division, but when you really look into this team and their trends I’m just not a fan. Before I break down why this series is not going to go the Marlin’s way I’ll talk about some of their good qualities. Their best quality, I’d like to attest, is their designated hitter Jorge Soler. This man has been in the shipping business this season. As in shipping baseballs out to the wonderful fans who attend his games in the upper decks. He has 24 homers to his name so far along with 54 RBIs. I would also like to highlight Luis Arraez’s batting average which is an absolutely insane .376, and also an MLB best in the statistic. However, this team has one crucial thing going against them, and that is a tremendous two and nine record since the start of the second half of the season. That’s right, since Friday, July 14th, they have only won two games and played in eleven. That is a very different picture being painted than their overall record.

It also doesn’t help the Marlin’s case that the Tiger’s stock has only been rising since the halfway point in the season. They, unlike their southern opponents, have won seven of the twelve games that they’ve played in since July 14th. Not only do they have this huge momentum boost, but it’s not like this team is without talent. They’ve got some great hitting in Spencer Torkelson who has 15 home runs and 56 RBIs. And also Kerry Carpenter who has eleven homers on a .266 batting average so far this year. So yea, it’s not like they lack any sort of batting prowess. On the other side of the field, they have shortstop Javier Baez with 222 assists and 113 putouts, which, you know, isn’t horrible. Plus you always gotta love that 0.8 DWAR.

The Tigers are a much better team than the Marlins at this point in the season. Bet on the Tigers and get your own Friday Beers merch!
