The Tigers against the Twins. Now I know what you may be thinking, the Twins sit first in the American League Central Division while the Tigers sit down in third. There seems to be a clear separation between the skill level of these two teams and the Twins should be the favorites to win the series. And normally, if these were any two random teams I’d agree with you. But that’s the magic of inter-divisional series’. These two teams have a rivalry, they’re playing for the same top spot, and winning or losing these games directly impacts their chances of making the postseason. (Also the Tigers are winning this season’s series against the Twins already if you needed any further proof). Call me crazy but give me the team that’s been winning this matchup since the first pitch was thrown this year.
The Minnesota Twins are a good baseball team. I’m not in the business of lying and the Twins sit atop their division for a reason. However, they are not unbeatable. They only sit two games above .500 right now, and that’s because they’re in the elite baseball team bracket. They definitely have some talent though. For instance, Byron Buxton and Joey Gallo have 17 home runs a piece. If you keep looking down their batting order it doesn’t get much worse in terms of tanks. Their next-best hitter’s got 15 ding-dongs, then 13, then 12, then 10. That’s six guys in the batting order that have double-digits in homers, pitchers beware. However, their fielding leaves much to be desired, and they aren’t elite in batting average either. They’re a good team that hasn’t shown they can consistently beat anyone, much less the Tigers.
The Detroit Tigers are not an amazing baseball team, but they don’t have to be. They’ve already proven that they can win games and even a series against the Twins. This isn’t a prediction for the Tigers to turn their season around, it’s a prediction that they will do what they have already done this season. Which is beat this Twins’ team. They have all the tools to win this series as well, with Spencer Torkelson being a very solid batter. He’s got 15 home runs, 59 RBIs, and a batting average of .228. So definitely not a guy that I’d enjoy throwing against. Plus this team seems to kick into another gear when they play the Twins. In their wins, they’ve posted 8 runs, 7 runs, and 6 runs.
