THE KINGS OF CONCACAF ARE ENTERING THE BUILDING SO LOOK OUT! I’m sorry but Canada had their short moment in the light spotlight when they topped the group heading into the past year’s World Cup. But that moment has come and gone and now we have Jesus Ferreira putting the fear of God into opposing sides. This Canadian team has not given me much hope in their chances to beat anyone in this Gold Cup competition let alone the best team in it.
Canada has been the definition of lackluster so far in this tournament. Of the three group match games they’ve played in they only won one. The reason that the US is playing them at all in fact is because they finished second in their group behind Guatemala. Guatemala of course was a team that they failed to score against. The other game they didn’t win was against Guadeloupe, who they let get two goals past them during the course of around 90 minutes. Not exactly what I’d call winning soccer. I also am not too convinced about the fact that there are no repeat scorers on Canada during this Gold Cup, which means that they don’t have any type of go-to attack on that side of the field. The Canadians also let in four total goals in the competition up to this point against teams that were not called the United States which does not bode well for them.
The USA on the other hand has been one of the highest-scoring teams in the Gold Cup if not the highest-scoring team. They also have only let in a single goal in the entire competition up to this point. We are coming off the back of a 6-0 win and a 4-0 win in which we dominated the other sides for the entirety of the game. From the moment the starting whistle was blown there was no doubt in which team would come out with the dub. I know there has recently been a vacancy in the starring role for Pirates of the Caribbean, but Jesus is really making a case for picking up the role. He just had back-to-back hat tricks which put him at three total in his career. That amount actually ties Landon Donovan on the number of hattricks a player has for the United States. If I were the Canadians I might just be thinking about where my next vacation plans are going up against a goal-scoring record like that. In terms of defense, as I stated before, there is only one side that has scored on us so far, and they had several Premier League attacks on their side. A luxury these Canadians do not have.
