Game Analysis:
ITTTTTTT’S TIIIIIIIMEEEEEE! I don’t know what your Saturday evening plans are, but mine consist of me planting my butt in my living room and throwing on what should prove to be a very interesting UFC card. We are not only going to witness Alexander Volkanovski against Yair Rodriguez, but right before we’re going to get to see Brandon Moreno fight Alexandre Pantoja. I am stoked for Saturday!
Now Brandon Moreno is the current favorite to win this fight as Pantoja is a +170 underdog. Interesting this is, the last time they met back in 2018 Pantoja was able to walk away from the decision with a unanimous victory, so is he worth a little sprinkle on the moneyline? I would say so! He has more wins and less losses than his opponent, and other than the official win back in 2018, Pantoja also beat him in 2016 while on the Ultimate Fighter via submission. While Moreno is a bit younger which absolutely could prove to be an advantage, Pantoja has more significant strikes per minute, and also lands them at a higher rate. He is much more skilled at grappling and on the ground, but his striking is not much worse than Brandons’. Pantoja has won four of his last five fights and comes into this one with a huge mental advantage. I like the underdog on this one, I see value on Alexandre Pantoja.
Now I think I should take some time to talk about the main event. Alexander Volkanovski against Yair Rodriguez. Despite being five inches shorter and 4 years older, Alexander Volkanovski is the clear cut favorite in this fight. Why? I’ll give you a laundry list. First off, despite having professionally fought in 27 fights, he has one less loss and nine more wins than his opponent who has 19 fights under his belt. He lands more takedowns, is more effective with his his takedowns, but also Iands more significant strikes with a higher percentage of connection. Despite losing his last fight (which was in a different division than he usually fights in) he has successfully defended his belt 4 times after he beat Max Holloway to get it, including two rematches where he won both. He has not lost in the featherweight division since 2013 when we were all playing Flappy Bird and Listening to “Thrift Shop”. Now Yair lost to Holloway by unanimous decision less than two years ago, so that should show you the gap between these two fighters. Sure he’s a heavy favorite, but it’s for a reason. I like The Great Volkanovski in this one.
Don’t miss one of the bigger UFC cards of the year, and if you’re going to bet on any of the fighters, please do it responsibly.
