I love a good CUSA matchup. Two undefeated teams going head-to-head in the same division? Yeah, I’m in. I will say that only one of these two teams has a .500 record or worse and it ain’t the Hilltoppers. I really like Western Kentucky in this upcoming matchup against Louisiana Tech, and so do the lines. So why not take an odds-on favorite with me on this one?
Louisiana Tech has been….alright. I don’t think I can say they’re bad because they have definitely been solid enough in conference play, but the teams they’ve lost to aren’t exactly world-beaters. If you lose to teams like North Texas and SMU then you aren’t exactly going to inspire confidence in me. As far as their skill positions go I’m still not sold on quarterback. Hank Backmeier looks alright when you scan through his passing yards and touchdowns (756 and 5 respectively), but then you see that he also has taken 11 sacks and thrown a couple of picks and you just lose me. This guy needs to take less time looking for the best option and do what any responsible, desperate college student does when looking for love; settle for what’s available.
Western Kentucky only has one bad loss on the season, and the points difference was a field goal. Besides that flukey game against Troy, Western Kentucky has looked dangerous, and they also happen to be undefeated in conference play. Any team that has three different running backs with over 100 yards on it has my attention. That means that not only do you have some insane depth at the position, but your offensive line must basically be an actual brick wall that the receivers build every play for the quarterback and runningbacks to stand behind or run through. Austin Reed has also thrown for 11 touchdowns which is more than double that of Hank for those of us who are math whizzes, and I don’t think it’s just because Austin has better receivers.
Western Kentucky will simply be the best team on the field come game day. Bet on Western Kentucky
