Ladies and Gentlemen, it is almost time for the greatest annual tournament we have here in the great United States of America. Of course, I’m talking about March Madness if you couldn’t tell. While teams jostle for positions in their conferences and tournaments are right around the corner games just mean more and more. This week we have a heavyweight bout between the Wildcats and the Tigers of Auburn. Let’s break down this SEC catfight.
Auburn is ranked 13, just outside the top ten and for good reason. These guys refuse to lose at home. While their offense can seem flat sometimes their defense is miles better than the Wildcats. Johni Broome is the team leader in points, but these guys distribute the ball and score as a team, so everybody eats. I like the Tigers to make some noise in the tournament, but will they be able to keep their home court streak and send the Wildcats home with their tail between their legs?
The Wildcats have been goooood. Currently sitting ranked number 22 scoring the third most points per game in college basketball is nothing to turn your nose up at. Sure they might be lacking defensively, but if you’re letting up 70 points but scoring 90 it just does not matter. Antonio Reeves has led scoring with just under 20 points per game, and five Wildcats are over the double-digit point average. While their defense lacks a bit, I just don’t know it Auburn will be able to score enough points to keep up. It will be a tough game, but I would not be too surprised if Kentucky was able to come out on top.
