Game Analysis:
The Indiana Hoosiers will face the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines in a Big Ten clash at Michigan Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers are looking to snap a four-game losing streak, while the Wolverines are aiming to stay unbeaten and atop the conference standings.
The Hoosiers have had a disappointing season, ranking 10th in the Big Ten in scoring offense (21.6 points per game) and 11th in scoring defense (35.4 points per game). The Hoosiers have been hampered by injuries, turnovers and poor execution, especially on the road, where they have lost by an average of 25.3 points per game. The Hoosiers have also switched offensive coordinators, as Rod Carey replaced Walt Bell after the latter was fired. The Hoosiers hope that Carey can spark some life into their offense, which has scored only four touchdowns against power conference opponents. The Hoosiers will rely on quarterback Tayven Jackson, who has thrown for 862 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, and running back Jaylin Lucas, who has rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
The Wolverines have been dominant, ranking second in the nation in scoring defense (6.7 points per game) and fourth in the Big Ten in scoring offense (37.3 points per game). The Wolverines have been impressive on both sides of the ball, with quarterback J.J. McCarthy throwing for 1,305 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions, and running back Blake Corum rushing for 494 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Wolverines also have a stout defense, led by linebacker Junior Colson, who has 27 tackles, and a disciplined team that has committed only 14 penalties for 103 yards all season. The Wolverines are coming off a 52-10 rout of Minnesota, where they allowed an opponent to score in double digits for the first time this year.
Indiana is not ready to give up on their season, and they remember how they beat Michigan in a close game last year, snapping a 33-year skid. Indiana also has a history of bouncing back from tough losses, as they did in 2019 and 2020. However, Michigan is not intimidated by Indiana’s upset potential, and they want to prove they are the real deal in the Big Ten. Michigan also has home-field advantage, and they have won their last two games against Indiana at Michigan Stadium.
