Game Analysis:
Folks, October baseball is here and man am I excited. After a pretty uneventful Wild Card round where all of the winners took just two games to end it, we have some really interesting matchups, headlined by the hottest regular season team in baseball and the World Series runner-ups from last year. This has the makings of an all-time series and the only fault I can find with it is that it’s only a best-of-5 series. Here is what you should know.
Man, these first two games have been electric so far. After a disappointing first game, the Braves clutched up and took game two in spectacular fashion. After a first five that was all Phillies, Atlanta stormed back starting in the 6th, scoring in the sixth, and seventh, and finally pulling away when Austin Riley had a solo shot to give the Braves the lead. Braves have struggled a bit with starting pitching, but the bullpen has looked good. In game one, the bats were silent but really came alive in the second half of game two. This was something that really needed to happen for the Braves to have any life in this series. Still, losing a game at home is tough especially now that the Braves have to travel to Philly and play in Citizens Bank Park, an extremely hostile environment where the Phillies will no doubt have a huge home-field advantage. What will happen as a result of that?
I think that there is a decent chance the Phillies are able to close it out here in the next two games. Sure they choked a bit last game, but overall they have been the better team this series, blanking Atlanta in the first game and almost winning both games on the road. Now they have that home-field advantage, and the bats are so so hot. Trea Turner has been absolutely unreal with 7 hits and a .375 batting average this postseason. Man that standing ovation might have saved the Phils’ season. Realmuto already has 2 long balls, and Bryce’s postseason OBP is well over .500. Bryson Stott is also hotter than your best friend’s mom, and the pitching has been really good as well. Shoutout Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola. If the Phils can stay hot and the pitching helps the offense to keep leads, I think they should be favored to win all the games moving forward. I like them to win this series.
These are two elite teams that both have everything to lose, but also everything to gain. Bet on either team!
