If you think that the Tar Heels are going to storm into the John Paul Jones Arena and take it over you are sorely mistaken. “But UNC is second in the ACC this season only by tie-breaker”. Yeah, and guess who’s in third, and hungry to move up? That’s right, the Virginia Cavaliers. Especially after the pitiful performance this Virginia team put up against Tech, this is their chance to bounce back. And they’re going to take it.
Now I won’t be the last to say that UNC has looked good this season, in fact, I’d probably have to say great. There’s a reason they’re ranked 10th in the country for basketball. But hey, everyone thought the Titanic was indestructible until it was at the bottom of the ocean. Surprisingly enough this team’s weak point appears to be unranked teams with something to prove. Actually, looking at their losses four of the six of them have come against unranked opponents. That looks like a bad habit of underestimating competition to me.
The Cavs, on the other hand, will have no such issues inviting this team into their home court. They know what this game means for their end-of-season aspirations. I’m expecting the duo of Reese Beekman and Isaac McKneely to put on an offensive show, and as long as Virginia’s bigs show up to work the glass against Armando Bacot down low this game will stay within striking distance for the Cavaliers.
